Total Solar Eclipse over Your Natal Chart

NASA path in 3D. Ptolemaic verdict crossed with your natal chart: local visibility, Almuten of the degree, affected house, magnitude, chronology by thirds and quadrimesters.

Doctrine

The rule of thirds and quadrimesters

"The solar eclipse lasts as many years as equinoctial hours of totality; lunar, as many months. If the degree falls near the local Ascendant: rapid onset, peak in first third. Near the Midheaven: second quadrimester, middle third. Near the Descendant: slow, last third." — PTOLEMY, Tetrabiblos II.10
Calculator

Your eclipse in 5 layers

⌁ Layer 5 personal · requires all 3 fields ⌁
⚠ Without all 3 fields (date, exact time, birth city) you only get Layers 1-4. The natal house of the eclipse depends on the Midheaven, which moves 15° per hour: an approximate time gives a wrong house.

The first total eclipse in Spain in over a century

The evening of Wednesday 12 August 2026 brings the first total solar eclipse visible from the Iberian Peninsula in over a hundred years. The path of totality crosses Spain from west to east, entering through Galicia and exiting through the Balearic Islands.

For the classical astrologer, an eclipse is no mere spectacle. It is an omen of the first order, to which Ptolemy devotes entire chapters of the Tetrabiblos.

The Lord of the Eclipse (Almuten) at 20° Leo

This eclipse falls at 20° Leo, a sign ruled by the Sun. Identifying the Almuten reveals the nature of the omen. An eclipse in Leo traditionally points to figures of power and rulers.

"The duration of the effects is measured by the hours of the eclipse; their onset and intensity, by the position of the luminaries relative to the angles."
— Ptolemy, Tetrabiblos II, 10

By the Ptolemaic rule of thirds, since the eclipse occurs near sunset in Spain, its influence leans toward the end of the foretold period. The calculator above determines the exact Almuten for your chart.

Totality runs across northern Spain. Madrid and Barcelona fall just outside the path of totality: they will see a very deep partial, but not totality.

⚠️ The Sun will be very low. Find a clear western horizon and always use ISO 12312-2 certified glasses.

Frequently asked questions

How does this eclipse affect my natal chart?

An eclipse strongly activates points in your chart near 20° Leo. The calculator above applies the classical rules of signification.

How long does an eclipse's influence last?

Ptolemy teaches that each hour of the eclipse equates to roughly one year of effects, here estimated around a year and a half.

What is the Lord of the Eclipse (Almuten)?

It is the planet with the greatest essential dignity over the eclipse degree (20° Leo). The calculator identifies it automatically.

Is the eclipse visible from my city?

Totality is visible in northern Spain and the Balearics. The rest of Spain sees a partial eclipse. See the table above.
