How often are the positions updated?

Planetary positions are calculated in real time using Swiss Ephemeris whenever you load the page. The data is accurate to within fractions of an arc-second.

What does retrograde mean?

Retrograde is an apparent backward motion of a planet as seen from Earth. It occurs because Earth and the other planets orbit the Sun at different speeds. In traditional astrology, retrograde planets are considered weakened and their significations delayed or reversed.
